Monday 15 June – Happy Birthday Your Majesty!

Firstly, 1st Waddington (RAF) Brownies would like to wish Her Majesty The Queen a wonderful belated birthday!  Did anyone else watch her mini birthday trooping of the colour at the weekend?  Did you know The Queen was a Girl Guide?

In 1937, 11-year old Princess Elizabeth signed up as a Girl Guide and her younger sister, Margaret, was signed up as a Brownie. To help them earn their merit badges, the 1st Buckingham Palace Company was formed. The troop was made up of the children of royal household members and Buckingham Palace employees who also wanted to be Girl Guides and Brownies. They transformed a summerhouse on the palace garden into the Guides’ headquarters where the princesses and their fellow troop members learned to cook on campfires, practiced pitching tents, and earned merit badges like any other Girl Scout. Fascinating!

We hope everyone is well and enjoying the gorgeous weather again.  Sadly, we’ve not received any lovely emails from our Brownies this week but suspect this is due to most of them now being back at school and working hard to catch up!  So, no change to last week’s badge update:

Grow Your Own. Chloe, Ellie N and Lilly to do the design & care plan clauses.
Baking Interest Badge. Isla J to do the design & decorate plus the story clauses.
Jobs Interest badge. Evelyn just to complete the last clause – the Interview.

Calling all Brownies on camp!  Next time you are out and about, we would love it if you could take a bottle of water with you and give our planters a good watering on your way past – especially our new germaniums.  Thank you.

Daffodil is working on a special Theme Awards Progress Chart which will go out to parents once per term.  This will allow parents to check on their daughter’s progress towards gaining a theme award and hopefully encourage Brownies to compete an interest badges at home (which is a mandatory part of each theme award).  More detailed information on theme awards to follow in our new term newsletter in September (though there is some information on this website under the What’s On page).

That’s it for now. Keep safe, keep healthy and keep in touch xx
