Monday 12 July – It Rained :-(
It rained! Sadly we had to postpone our sports night until next week due to the weather so back to Zoom it was. We finished our Lincolnshire South 60th birthday challenge by celebrating the 2010s. We started off by saying hello to everyone as we had lots of girls who had never meet due to being in separate groups so it was lovely to meet each other. Lots of major events in the 2010s including the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine in 2011, the London 2012 Olympics, the introduction of the social media hashtag #BlackLivesMatter in 2013; 52% of Britons voted for Brexit in 2016 and the first-ever real picture of a black hole was revealed in 2019. We went a little light-hearted and started with the live action remake of Alice in Wonderland which was released 3 March 2010. Not all Brownies had seen this so we watched the official trailer and agreed it was a great film. We then made a cute Queen of Hearts guard from a playing card, piece of pipe cleaner and red paper. Easy to make and so cute!
We took a zoom poll to find out what our favourite time filler games and favourite zoom activities have been over the last 10 months before going to break. In 2013, the Promise for all sections of Girlguiding was changed – it was the biggest change to the Promise in 110 years and saw the removal of the words “To Love My God” which was replaced with “To be true to myself and develop my beliefs”. We had a look at some of the major changes of the Promise from the first one in 1910 which was very short in comparison “On my honour, I promise that I will do my best. To do my duty to God and The King. To help others at all times. To obey the Guide Law”. So, during break, we made a gorgeous Promise Flower to remind ourselves of our promise.
After break, we played all our favourite games including Would You Rather, bingo, virtual hide and seek, guess who, battleships and finished with a scavenger hunt. It was a great meeting! We’re a little sad to see the end of our Zoom sessions but can’t wait to get back to face to face meetings. Next week is our Promise ceremony for Ayda and Emily followed by our much-anticipated Sports Night. See you there!
