Monday 26 July – Whisby Nature Park
We finished the term with a fantastic trip to Whisby Nature Park! Our activities were run by the Whisby education Centre, part of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. We meet Sam and Vicky who would be running the evening and after a heath and safety brief, started our first activity.
We went pond dipping! In groups of 4 with one adult per group plus the 2 instructors, we walked round to the pond and took turns to dip in the nets and try to find some water creatures. Once our 2 buckets where full, we returned to the outdoor classroom to pour our water into viewing trays and spent a good 30 minutes investigating and identifying what we found. The girls loved the pond dipping and really enjoyed trying to work out what creatures they had caught. After putting all our water and creatures back into the buckets for Sam to empty back into the pond, Vicky led us to our next activity.
After a 5-minute walk, we arrived at our destination deep amongst the trees for some den building. In our groups we had 15 minutes to build any sort of den using the trees in the clearing, branches and logs on the floor. The Brownies thoroughly enjoyed this activity and with a bit of adult help all managed to build some pretty impressive dens. We finished off by saying our traditional Brownie thank you to Sam and Vicky for an amazing night of activities.
A walk back to meet our parents then that was it, all finished! Thank you to Buttercup and our 4 parent helpers: Bea, Graham, Liz and Trudi for making the event possible. Thank you to the Whisby Education Centre staff for an awesome Brownie meeting. Lastly, thank you to Ellie’s mum for the lovely thank you gifts for all the Leaders. Never expected but always a lovely welcome surprise!
That’s it, this will be our last blog until September but Daffodil will keep in touch via our weekly e-newsletter full of summer holidays badge challenges.
