Sunday 26 February – District World Thinking Day

Today we joined around 50 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from our District to attend our District World Thinking Day celebration. Daffodil and Snowdrop plus 6 of our Brownies had a great morning doing 2 USA-themed activities, which although USA isn’t one of our World Centres (as we usually cover these), it was the country everyone voted last year to cover.

On arrival, the girls went to their unit’s table and were given a blue or red sticker to denote what group they would be in. While waiting for everyone else to arrive they completed a World Thinking Day themed word search and coloured in a USA themed picture. The red group consisted of our youngest Brownies: Emma and Emily S; while the blue group had our older Brownies: Amy, Isabel, Olivia B and Mia. We gathered into a huge circle while Sarai, the event organiser completed the welcome speech and explained what we’d be doing. We then split into our 2 groups:

Blues – Craft.  All older Brownies made USA flag pin brooch. It was very faddily as the beads were tiny but once we got the hang of handling them, very easy. The younger Brownies made red, white & blue bracelets using large beads. Reds – Dancing.  Sarai taught us 3 different line dancing routines – we started off easy to get used to it and gradually progressed to a harder routine. We had a wonderful dance lesson before bringing it all together for an amazing dance session.

Halfway through the morning we swapped sessions and had a quick refreshment break with squash and biscuits and continued our word searches.  However, all too soon, it was time to go.  So, to finish off we sung some songs, laid our shiny 50p pieces on the World Map (which will be donated to the Ukraine Fund) and then renewed our Promise and we sang the goodbye song. As we donated our money, we received our lovely World Thinking Day badges.

The Brownies  and Leaders had a lovely morning, particularly enjoying the line dancing lesson. A big Brownie thank you to our District Commissioner, Sarai for organising and running the day.
